Classes & Workshops
Madeleine's teaching experience ranges from elementary school
children to retired seniors! She loves spreading her passion for
letterpress and printmaking in workshops and classes. She offers
private instruction at Panorama Press or can work with you at your
own studio. Whether you would like to learn the foundations of
letterpress printing, fine tune your techniques or need assistance on
a particular project, she is available as an instructional and
practical resource.

International Printing Museum
Letterpress Basics
Immerse yourself in the traditional process of letterpress printing
in this class. Students will take a brief tour of the Museum to
become familiar with the various presses in our collection and then
learn hand typesetting with metal type and an image. Basic
letterpress printing skills on a Vandercook will be covered. Students
will print two small projects. Designed for the beginner as an
opportunity to experience the basics of letterpress printing.
Time: January 10 & March 7, 9:30-4
Fee: $100 plus $25 materials fee = $125
Level: Beginner, 18 and up
Intermediate Letterpress
Expand your letterpress techniques, by applying print knowledge in a
more complex manner. Collaborative and individual projects will be
printed on a Vandercook press. Processes covered include multiple
layers/complex registration, hand-set type, photo-polymer plates and
if time permits, other techniques. This class will also address
problem solving techniques around fine tuning lock up, registration,
impression and training your “printer’s eye” in order to achieve
beautiful, high quality letterpress printing.

Level: Beginner, 18 and up
Letterpress Type Slam
It's open studio time at the Museum! Print a poster, small set of
cards or other project. Some letterpress experience recommended but
not required.

Irvine Fine Arts Center
Experimentations in Letterpress Printmaking
Explore various techniques of printmaking and letterpress in this
class geared for beginning-intermediate students. Learn both the
historical and traditional processes in letterpress and begin to
experiment with various modern applications. Learn how to hand set
type and print on a Vandercook Proof Press while training your
'printer's eye' to be mindful of impression, inking, and
registration. Learn how to print with metal and wooden type, vintage
printers' blocks, photo-polymer plates and other various media.
Time: Tuesdays 6:30-9:30 p.m., June 9-July 14 (No class 7/7)
Fee: IFAC Member $139, Non-members $149
